Rock Band

Now, I realize I'm biased here. I've been waiting for Rock Band for months. I found Guitar Hero earlier this year and loved it. So saying that I really like Rock Band isn't exactly an even-handed judgment.

And there are technical bugs-- the guitar controllers aren't properly compatible, and there are some imperfect hardware issues, and the microphone should have buttons on it, and there aren't enough plugs for the six controllers you might want, and nothing has native wireless, and you only get one guitar controller in the pack.

But still. Despite all of that. Despite the fact that everyone and their grandmother is already saying this, I feel the need to make the following statement official.

This is a totally god-damned awesome game.

I mean, I don't sing. In the shower, maybe. But get me behind a microphone for "Highway Star" and I'll be screaming my head off. I don't play the drums. But I keep channeling Animal from the Muppet Show every time I sit behind that drum set. I don't just play the guitar in this game, I sing along with the chorus and add little dance moves.

There's just something about ROCKING OUT. Whenever you successfully do one of the big rock endings you throw up your arms in pure exultation. I mean seriously, even the songs I normally wouldn't give the time of day to become suddenly awesome through whatever strange alchemy makes this thing work.

Maybe it's the fact that this is one of a very few totally cooperative, totally non-violent games. Maybe it's because everyone can connect to music. I don't know. But it's something I'm going to try and share with as many people as I possibly can. This is too good to keep to myself.
