Office Time
Sep. 13th, 2007 04:13 pmA few random updates, while I have office minutes:
* So since I'm sitting in an office, I'm back on the internet. Literally two days after I logged back into AIM, two friends of mine I hadn't talked to in years popped on and said hi. A few other random relations have also said hi. It's been pleasant. Chatting with people is an excellent way to pass time. If you too are online between 8 and 5, feel free to send a few lines my way.
* Pursuant to this, I got into a conversation with Mike the other day about writing, and during a cross-conversation with Jennie V, I had my idea for NaNoWriMo this year. My previous experience tells me this one might be a winner, but we'll see what I think of it in a month. I also threw an idea Mike's way on essentially a dare, and I'm intrigued to see what he does with it.
* Adjusting to the schedule has been hard. Getting to bed at 10:30 I can pretty much do now, but I can't actually get to SLEEP until 11, and that has to stop. I also can't bring myself to do creative stuff at work-- I can't quite tune out the environment yet. This has meant that I've been unprepared for some of my games recently, but that's fixable. As an aside, a friend of mine who also just got a full time job and runs a bunch of games has been asking me for coping advice. I find this thoroughly amusing.
* I've been playing a lot of Guitar Hero (thanks Nesko!). My finger strength is actually a lot better, and I can now play for extended periods without hurting my hand. I've mostly mastered Medium and am up to about 70% through Hard, but the learning curve is tapering off gradually. I think eventually my comfort level will end up on the low Hards, but we'll see. I'm looking forward to Guitar Hero III, and I still think a bunch of us should play Rock Band on the network when it comes out. I'll actually be buying a PS3 soon-- my first game system ever.
* I'm running D&D for freshman through a U of I college organization. It's surprisingly fun-- all my players are these bouncy balls of enthusiasm. The format is such that I can basically throw in whatever random crap I want from week to week, and since I'm using mostly monsters from the manuals I don't have incredibly heavy prep. And it's getting people to game together, which means that the club will have a little insurance next year. I like this club, and seeing people wholly new to gaming get excited about it really makes my weekends.
* After being stupidly waffley about it, I decided to do the Road Rally this year. Since making this decision, I have been a much happier person. We're TOTALLY going to lose all over town, but it'll be a good time. :)
* Also, after having my aforementioned friend's game cancelled tonight, I realize I can actually go to a movie. Now, to see Shoot 'em Up or 4:10 to Yuma...
