Rejected: Several
Jul. 27th, 2010 03:40 pmThere Are Doors by Gene Wolfe: I don't know what it is about Gene Wolfe novels that seems to generally rub me the wrong way, but there's something. Perhaps it's that while he has a nimble imagination he can't characterize to save his life. This one's like the Amber novels only without Corwin to anchor it. Pass.
Tom O'Bedlam by Robert Silverberg: There are people having dreams of alien space gods. A hundred and fifty pages later, people are still having dreams of alien space gods. Pass.
Looking for the Mahdi by N. Lee Wood: Narrator/main character is a sexist idiot, and the author is determined to tell not show. Pass.
Verdict: Recycle (15/44 keepers)
Page count: 60 (8945 total)
Completed: 24 (12 female authors, 12 male authors)
Rejected: 20 (12 male authors, 8 female authors)
Next book due: 8/6
