By the way
Apr. 18th, 2010 08:23 amKick-Ass? Was in fact comically over-the-top gory in places. But it wasn't nearly as bad as I was led to believe. The violence for the vast majority of the film was slightly overstated (for an action film), but there were only two or three places where it was like "Oh, ewwwwwwww." And the "little girl getting the crap kicked out of her" was neither inappropriate nor as severe as it sounds. She lost a fight. It was no worse for her than, say, a boxing movie. The fact that she was in the fight at all actually gives me some glee.
I'm pleased to say I laughed my ass off throughout the film-- it was hilarious, consistently full of little comic touches that I wasn't expecting. And critical consensus on Hit Girl was right, she absolutely stole the show.
It's worth seeing if you have a certain dark sense of humor. If you're put off by language, creatively caricatured violence, or eleven-year-old girl assassins... stay far, far away.
