Another TNG observation

kilroyI'd forgotten how much darker the third season was. It's still rich with humor, don't get me wrong, but it's so full of difficult decisions, moral gray areas, sacrifice, and unpleasant truths as well.
In the first two seasons odds were good that the show would end with something uplifting, everyone smiling. In the third season the endings are more often shaded; the heroes win (usually), but at a cost none of them can quite forget.
And of course the season ends with "The Best of Both Worlds"...
