Negotiations with my body continue
Aug. 13th, 2008 08:15 amSo, on the passing out front: iron does weird, weird things to my system for a few days and then I'm back to normal again-- no anemia symptoms. So I'm guessing I'm overdosing the iron when I'm trying to recover and it's causing its own set of weirdnesses. I'll be experimenting with dosages to try and correct this; I need a maintenance schedule so I can prevent the anemia, but clearly a little iron goes a long way.
On the eyeball front, my trip to the doctor in St. Louis was a mixed bag of crap. That is to say, after driving to St. Louis and paying however many dollars for the privilege, the doctor told me much the same thing everyone else has told me. He prescribed a new eye-drop and told me to get a sleep mask, because it's possible that my eye doesn't close all the way at night and this is contributing to the problem. He also gave me a set of antibiotics that I had a surprise allergic reaction to... I actually have a blistered patch on my left hand from nothing more than the chemical reactions themselves. I was completely unable to find a sleep mask and ended up with one of the elasticated medical eyepatches instead; and the new eye-drop is (according to the label) essentially very expensive salt water, which I am applying to open, exposed wounds in my eye. Needless to say, it hurts like the dickens and sleeping in an eyepatch is very uncomfortable. On the other hand, I haven't been waking up in the middle of the night with stabbing eye pain. We'll see if this pans out.
If it turns out, though, that all I needed to correct the issue was salt water and an eyepatch, I'm going to kill my doctor.
