A valuable human moment
May. 9th, 2008 08:50 amI would like to say thank you to Angus, the retired black gentleman who stood and talked with me for 20 minutes while we were both getting breakfast this morning. His family survived a tornado that hit their house while they were in it, he retired twice and got it right the second time, and his brother fought in the invasion of Okinawa in World War II and was never quite the same again.
He's fifty years my senior, grew up in a different state, and doesn't share my religion, my political party, or the color of my skin. Today, he shared a little time with me-- and for that I am profoundly grateful.
