What's the editorial equivalent of "Off to the printers?"

Well, I finished critiquing my friend's novel. There were many pages. I tried to say "You might want to do this" as opposed to "You should do this," and I think I explained almost everything I said so that there were no random dicta. On the whole it still felt pretty negative though, and my friend hasn't gotten back to me yet. Hopefully he won't stop talking to me over this. Or even better, I hope he actually got something useful out of it.

Haven

Started watching Haven, and it makes me happy. This is not a show that will ever inspire raving fans-- not because it isn't good enough, but because the tone is too gentle to rave about. This is an understated show. It has a deep compassion for people and a dry sense of humor. It really does remind me of Stephen King in the best possible sense.

It's a very fall show. I'm glad I'm watching it now.
