Revised opinion

Check out Leverage. It's worth a look. The writing and staging are all first-rate, the cinematography and music are seamless, and it's just generally a well-put together and thoroughly enjoyable show.

The weird part for me is that out of the five main characters, the two that do not immediately sell me are the two that really need to: the main guy (Nate) and the con artist (Sophie). He underplays it and she overplays it. The whole thing jars me just a little bit because I know from prior experience that they're both capable of better. I keep waiting for the right combination of time, direction, and inspiration to really make those two characters click.

If that happens, then I'm pretty much sold for life.

Just... no, on so many levels no. Bebop is one of a very, very small number of animated franchises that I love that I think could successfully make it to live action. But this is not the way to do it.

Today's depressing number in teaching: 80 students enrolled in the wrong composition classes for Spring.

It's not that depressing from a global perspective, I know-- we have something like 50 composition classes offered in the spring, with 20ish students per. But I have to look at it from a different angle. That's four full classes of students, out of which a significant number are going to get dropped. If they clump badly that could mean classes get canceled, and that means part-time faculty who really need the money getting the shaft.

Also, it means 80 bloody letters I have to send out. Boo.

On the other hand...

one of my faculty just got me a 12-pack of Mountain Dew for Christmas.

With a big gold bow on it. :)
