Doctor Who 4x07: The Unicorn and the Wasp

"But Doctor, Charlemagne lived hundreds of years ago."
"Oh, I have a good memory."
This was not a problem during the show, but afterwards I had to keep reminding myself: this is a Gareth Roberts episode. Gareth Roberts wrote about a dozen Doctor Who novels which I really enjoyed-- his take on the Whoniverse is a helluva a lot more fun and whimsical than the average books in the line, and I left them with a smile on my face if not deeply moved by the drama.
This episode is a hyper-compressed version of that. It's fun; yes there's drama, but there's also an underlying sense of wacky that isn't necessarily present in every story. It needs to be taken on its own terms. I have some criticisms of the story, but I need to make sure I'm in that place before I try.
