I just did some quick math regarding how much television I've been watching thus far this year. I've been digging a lot of cool series I hadn't seen before (Six Feet Under, Noir, Excel Saga, Singing Detective) and re-watching some old favorites (Red Dwarf, B5). My movies-per-week rating has suffered as a result, but the vast majority of the TV shows I've been watching have been better than the movies I've been seeing (case in point: this weekend I saw Chronicles of Riddick in theater, and watched Haibane Renmei at home).

Anyway, after totalling it up by actual minutes watched (that is, each episode of B5 counts as 42 minutes since there aren't any commercials), my grand summary comes to a little under 7200 mintues of television thus far this year. That's 120 hours of television. 5 days worth. About 5 and a half hours a week. And that's not counting the 56 new movies and random diaspora of Doctor Who episodes.

Say that brings the total to 8 hours a week. Then add in roleplaying-- two games a week for another nine hours of just playing. Add another two of GM-prep. So far we have 19 hours. Add in an hour of recreational reading (all my other estimates have been erring on the small side after all) and perhaps another hour of webcomics a week. 21 hours. Not to mention the time spent eating, driving around, showering... and I keep wondering where all my free time goes.

This last week I really needed to be looking for a job. I didn't-- I was playing Tron 2.0, which I thankfully finished. And my last class starts tomorrow, so I'll now have even less free time. I think I need to start doing "life work" for at least an hour a day... maybe I should get myself an egg-timer. Oh yeah, and exercise. Dear god.

Either way, I'm probably going to have to lay off the movies and television for a while. I just hope that when I do I'll actually get work done.
