One session and one co-game left in Nobilis. Last night's session was really, really dramatic and three shades of awesome... all in ways I wasn't fully expecting. Fitting everything I still have to tell in the little time I have left is going to be extremely challenging. But at least I can guarantee no one's going to be bored. :-)

I have this ongoing problem with Nobilis, though, and that's why I don't post about it too much despite the fact that it consumes a large part of my creative energies. The problem is this: it is really, really hard to explain anything concisely about the game.

The premise alone is difficult enough for people to really grok, and at this point we're talking about almost a hundred sessions of backstory to boot. I mean, check out the character list, ferchrissakes. If I want to tell you about Cool Thing A, I have to tell you about Cool Things B and C that contributed to A's existence, and refer back to Backstory Element 1 from thirty sessions ago, and then explain how the character normally acts to put it in context... you get the idea.

This is obviously a problem with all roleplaying games-- I'm sure we've all lived through the totally uninteresting war-story about that seminal moment in someone else's character life. But a given session of Nobilis is at least 50% denser in terms of storytelling than practically any other game out there... which makes it that much more difficult to get the point across.

I love this game, I love my players, and I love the stories that we tell. I just wish there was a way to share it with people who weren't there.
