Mildly amused

So I'm not forcing myself to adhere to any of the category rules from last year on my reading challenge, but I've still got unofficial rules. I want to knock out half my shelf of unread Doctor Who books. I want to read at least five books on the Kindle. I want to keep some female authors in the mix, especially ones I haven't read yet (overdue on this one).

Accordingly, last night I pulled three random books off my shelf that seemed likely for rejection so that I could clear some shelf space. I got one book that would have been adequate but unexciting--which I rejected only by a narrow margin--and two books that appear to be worth reading.

I have failed! I mostly found books I actually want to read!

Well, here's adding to your failure... I recently read "The Gilda Stories" and "Wench" and hugely enjoyed them both. "Gilda" is basically the perfect vampire story (for me at least) and "Wench" is historical fiction about slavery in the 1850s, both by African-American, female writers. Next on my pile is "Farewell Britannia" by Simon Young, a fictional novel about Roman Britain.

I have got to get some more non fiction in my stack.
