Complete waste of time 4-13-04
Instant Classic -- A comic about movies. Started off really well, but has been taking a very weird turn of late. Still classy and fun.
Count Your Sheep -- Probably the best non-geek comic I read. Charming, sweet, and funny as hell.
PartiallyClips -- This comic is a tonic for my bitter, black, cynical soul. I probably fell out of my chair laughing more times because of this strip than all the others combined. But then, I'm morally bankrupt.
Sluggy Freelance -- Yes, I finally got around to reading Sluggy. In a lot of ways I wish I hadn't... the guy is occasionally brilliant, and some of his serious stuff is top-notch, but his long-term "funny" stories just don't make me laugh recently. Still enough good stuff in the archives to keep me coming back with my fingers crossed. (he's having a filler week though, skip back some comics)
Penny Arcade -- It took me several years after hearing about these guys to like them-- much like South Park. They're rude, abrasive bastards, but they're smart, self-aware abrasive bastards.
Psycindom -- Psychology: the Comic. Often brilliant and always totally unique.
PvP -- Video games + roleplaying + good dialogue + clean art = good reading. At an amazingly consistent level of quality. How he keeps doing this I'll never know.
Real Life -- Greg Dean does something inexplicable. This comic is good, really good, and I can't really put my finger on why. The word "genuine" springs to mind, though. (another filler week, that ain't Greg's work)
Questionable Content -- A comic with a very strange idiom. People speak strangely in the QCverse. But the jokes are funny, the characters are three-dimensional, and the artist is continually working on his style.
Fragile Gravity -- Another geek comic, from the anime/fan community end of things. Dear god, the cat speaks francais.
Orneryboy -- Runner up on Most Bitter Comic I Read. Only occasionally updated, and often somewhat predictable, but never a chore to read.
Scary Go Round -- I admit it; the art was what got me reading this strip. The totally unique comedic rhythm was what got me to stay. Nobody sets up jokes like this guy. Really.
Theater Hopper -- Another movie-based comic, although a lot more popcorn-based than Instant Classic. Quick, easy, and funny.
Dog Complex -- This comic's previous name (Dead Air) was better. But fortunately the humor level has stayed about the same. The only people-and-talking-animals strip I read for a reason.
Piled Higher and Deeper -- The comic about grad students. I challenge you to find anyone who even tried to get a masters who doesn't find this funny.
Avalon -- Yes, I read a comic about high-schoolers and their social entanglements. You should too. It's really good, and they mention Great Big Sea a lot. (Addendum: unfortunately this one's closed indefinitely. It'll finish at some point but it's on hiatus. Oh well. The archives are still a few hours long...)
The Order of the Stick -- do not read unless you play a lot of Dungeons and Dragons. If you play 3.5 D&D, this is mandatory.
